Development status and analysis of seasonal sensible thermal energy storage projects in new century

The development of seasonal thermal energy storage technology is of great significance to realize the green and low-carbon transformation in China’s heating field. This paper reviews the principle and classification of seasonal thermal energy storage, the development status at home and abroad, and project statistics and parameter analysis from the perspective of seasonal thermal energy storage projects. The typical techno-economic parameters, heat source and material analysis of the 44 domestic and foreign seasonal thermal energy storage projects are focused on. Finally, it is pointed out that the number of seasonal thermal energy storage projects and the scale of thermal energy storage are continuously expanding at home and abroad, and the development of large-capacity water pit thermal energy storage, the realization of multi-energy complementary heat source for seasonal thermal energy storage, the large-scale application of heat pumps, and the further development of new materials for seasonal thermal energy storage system may be an important direction for the future development of seasonal thermal energy storage.
